<HUNDREDS AND THOUSANDS> CAROLINE BROADHEAD
CAROLINE BROADHEAD
7 MAY - 21 MAY, 2025
Gallery O is pleased to present the first solo exhibition in Korea by renowned British artist Caroline Broadhead, a pioneering figure in contemporary art jewelry. Since the early 1970s, Broadhead has expanded the boundaries of jewelry by exploring the relationships between the body, space, and material.
Her practice uses jewelry as a medium to question themes of presence, memory, perception, and the traces we leave behind. Over time, her work has evolved to incorporate textiles, furniture, installation, and performance, broadening the scope of her expression. Starting with wearable objects, Broadhead's pieces poetically visualize the invisible yet perceptible presence that surrounds us. This exhibition features key jewelry works from her recent fascination with, and exploration of beadworking.
Caroline Broadhead was born in Leeds, UK in 1950 and studied jewelry design at the Central School of Art and Design in London. Her work is held in major international collections, including the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, The National Museum of Modern Art in Kyoto, and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and she has received wide acclaim for her contributions to the field.
She was also an influential educator, serving as Course Director of BA Jewellery Design at Central Saint Martins from 2009 to 2018, and now holds the title of Professor Emerita. Her impact as both an artist and mentor continues to shape the field of contemporary jewelry today.
